In the video, Viola performs a workout with her husband Julius, as instructed by their personal trainer Gabriela Mclain. At 55-years-old, Viola seems to be defying the ageing process, and looks as toned and fit as ever. The Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom star performs bicep presses, arm curls, weighted bends, and kettle ball slams, barely giving away any sense of strain as she makes it look all too easy. And yes, you guessed it, we’re lusting over those insanely toned arms .
Fans were quick to celebrate the star’s fitness regime, with one user writing: “Inspired”. The video comes after Viola previously shared a glimpse into her exercise routine back in October, releasing a series of images of her in workout clothes as she went through a number of exercises with her trainer.
According to Mclain, Viola is the model fitness enthusiast. She wrote: “I’ve been training @violadavis for over two years now, and let me tell you something, she brings all this to the game. She doesn’t complain, she always pushes to the limits, she’s extremely humble and disciplined. It’s always such a treat to train Viola. She is a perfect example of how hard work pays off.”
And it certainly does. Viola shared that she was diagnosed with pre-diabetes in 2018, telling Everyday Health that the diagnosis “shocked” her. She said, “I always find myself exercising and eating right. I felt fantastic. But there you go. Blood doesn’t lie.”
Since then, she’s overhauled her fitness routine and works out three times a week with her husband and trainer. She also follows a strict Paleo diet. She does weight training sessions three times a week and is a fan of moves like weighted box steps and free weights for bicep presses and arm curls. Whatever she’s doing, it’s working for her.
