And then you get pregnant, you’re carrying a baby – potentially the most socially acceptable way to put on some additional kilos. If we are aware and we do it right, embracing the perfect opportunity to re-set our messed up metabolism and hopefully re-set our mindset too.
It’s an opportunity to finally see how AMAZING our body is. It can grow a mini human! It can birth a baby! Hopefully somewhere on our pregnancy and childbirth journey we can take a moment to recognise that. Hopefully when we come out the other side we see an opportunity for change. An opportunity to ditch the thoughts and obsession with wanting our bodies to be something they are not, forever. An opportunity to shower our body in respect, to exercise and move from a place of love, to talk to it kindly like we would a dear friend, or the mother of their child.
When we are ready to walk back into the gym or re-start our exercise routine we do it from this same place of self-love. We allow ourselves to move at our own pace, in our own time and to honour and respect what our body needs, or doesn’t need on a daily basis. We give ourselves permission to be where we are right now, to nurture ourselves and our child. And if the personal trainer we just started to see asks us if we want to get our “pre-baby body back” we can confidently say “no thanks” and truly mean it because we know in our heart and our soul it’s finally time to do things differently.
