Hansen, who also goes by her TikTok name @minorfauna, is an Adelaide-based midwife. She will sit down with Australia’s first female Prime Minister for a discussion today - Thursday, 25th March at 7pm - on sexism, misogyny and more. In an interview with Body and Soul, Hansen revealed that it was her desire to bring politics to young people in a more palatable way that inspired her first TikTok video. “It’s just something I’m passionate about. I do feel like a lot of conversations that I have with younger people around politics is that they’re not really involved or don’t know too much about it.”
She added, “Being a creative person who likes to watch other people laugh, I thought, well maybe this is a good way to deliver some political messages and news to people.”
In light of recent women’s marches that have taken place around the world, and the shocking allegations that have rocked Parliament about sexual assault and rape, the discussion between Hansen and Gillard could not be more timely. Speaking about the upcoming interview, Hansen said she hopes to discuss leadership and gender inequality, as well as ageism in politics.
“It’s time that women were heard. I mean, we’ve been fighting to be heard for a very long time and I think the best way to support the movements is to believe women, to stand with women, and show up to marches,” says Hansen.
