The news was celebrated for many reasons, not just because fans were quick to share in Halsey’s delight. The 26-year-old singer has previously shared her struggle with endometriosis, with the painful chronic condition leading her to suffer multiple miscarriages.
Recently though, the singer has had to field questions regarding her pregnancy and has now taken to Instagram to disclose that yes, it was “100% planned.” Talk surrounding her pregnancy has fuelled a number of rumours, most pertaining to the fact that the pregnancy was unplanned. But as Halsey was quick to note in her post, “why is it ok to speculate and pass judgement about fertility and conception?” She added, “I tried very hard for this bb. But I would be just as happy even if it were another way.”
Previously, the singer disclosed in an interview that following miscarriages in the past, “It’s the most inadequate I’ve ever felt.” She told The Guardian, “Here I am achieving this out-of-control life, and I can’t do the one thing I’m biologically put on this earth to do.” She added, “Then I have to go onstage and be this sex symbol of femininity and empowerment? It is demoralising.”
Since falling pregnant, Halsey has shared her journey with her fans, even taking to Instagram to speak candidly about how the experience has changed her perception of gender entirely, acknowledging that her body is doing a “remarkable” thing. She wrote in one post, “I’ve been thinking lots about my body. It’s strange to watch yourself change so quickly. I thought pregnancy would give me very strong, binary feelings about ‘womanhood’ but truly it has levelled my perception of gender entirely.”
She added, “My sensitivity to my body has made my hyper aware of my humanness and that’s all. Doing a remarkable thing. And it’s grand. I hope the feeling lasts.”
