The 28-year-old model, who welcomed her second daughter Gio Grace with hubby Adam Levine back in February, smiled at the camera as she pumped the milk, and captioned the pic, “#pumpanddump”.
She also uploaded the same pic to Instagram stories with the caption, “More like cowchella lol Jamiroquai was soooo worth the pump and dump”.
However the mother-of-two quickly faced backlash, with trolls criticising her for wasting her breast milk and for daring to have a good time away from her baby.
“Disgusting..what kind of mom pumps and dumps?? Just so you can drink?? Gross..get a life!” read one comment, while another added, “Just couldn't wait to start drinking and partying again... gross.”
Thankfully however many fans also came to her defence.
“So many misinformed people here... pumping and dumping doesn't just mean you're doing it so you can drink alcohol! Even if you're away from your baby for a short period, not pumping could mess up your feeding schedule when you get back to breastfeeding your baby! Common sense people!” Said @harrietbeattie13.
“Ignore all of this ignorant, negative crap. Breastfeeding is a commitment, and moms deserve a break and time to have fun, too.” wrote @justsummerlly.
Regardless of her reasons for pumping and dumping, any breastfeeding mother will know that if you’re away from your baby and you don’t pump you risk losing your supply, or worse, you risk becoming engorged or in some cases mastitis, which can be extremely serious and not to mention painful.
So enough of the mum-shaming already, we’re all just trying to do our best.
