How can I watch it in Australia?
The tell-all interview will be broadcast on Network 10 and on 10 Play at 7:30pm on Monday, March 8, 2021 in Australia.
What will be discussed with Oprah?
As per the trailer for the two-hour interview, “there is no subject that is off limits”. There are clips that have emerged online that seemingly show Megan revealing that she struggled with her mental health, with the couple addressing the tensions that arose between them and the royal family (otherwise addressed as “The Firm”). They will also discuss the decision to step back as royals and their move to LA.
More recently, a second trailer showed Megan addressing the palace’s reaction to her speaking with Oprah. She says, “I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, that we would still just be silent if there was an active role that The Firm was playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us, and if that comes with risk of losing things…I mean, there’s a lot that’s been lost already.”
Prince Harry also expresses how his biggest concern was “history repeating itself,” referring to his mother Princess Diana’s tragic death at the hands of the tabloid paparazzi in Paris in 1997, when Harry was just 12-years-old.
He tells the talkshow host, “You know for me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here and talking to you with my wife by my side. Because I can’t imagine what it must have been like for her [Princess Diana] going through this process by herself all those years ago. Because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we have each other.”
What do the royals say about all this?
There’s been great turmoil as far as the Royal family is concerned. Criticisms were directed at the royal couple of Prince Harry and Meghan as the interview will air at the same time that prince Philip is in hospital. However, the interview was filmed a long time prior and the air date was likely out of their hands. Moreover, they shouldn’t be criticised for now being able to speak their truth. It does seem that the Royal Family has attempted to diminish the headlines surrounding the interview by announcing they plan to investigate allegations that Meghan “bullied former palace staff in 2018” despite staying silent on the allegations of paedophilia against Prince Andrew.
At the time of the interview’s announcement, Buckingham Palace said they will not be commenting on the Sussexes’ decision to do the interview.
