These Are Australia’s Most Popular Baby Names
There’s a few things the British royal family do best: nail polished glamour, rear corgis and apparently, pick baby names.
Charlotte—a name shared by the Duchess of Cambridge’s two-year-old princess—has topped the list of the most popular girls’ names in Australia for a second year in a row.
According to a study by social researchers McCrindle, 1817 girls were named Charlotte out of the 300,000 babies born in Australia in the past year.
Olivia, Mia, Ava and Amelia were the next most popular names for girls, all interestingly ending in a vowel.
For boys, Oliver was the number one pick, followed by William, Jack and Noah.
While stranger celebrity names like North, Rocket and Apple were absent, the influence of A-listers can be seen in names like Penelope in 54th place (Kourtney Kardashian was on to something), Willow (the name of Pink’s daughter) and Noah (Michael Bublé’s son).
Four new boys’ names cracked the top 100 for the first time: Sonny (thanks Zoe Foster-Blake!), Vincent, Parker. Five new girls names— Bonnie, Thea, Quinn, Florence and Brooklyn—also got their dues.
And proving a love for botanicals isn’t limited to gin, many floral-inspired names feature on the list, including Lily, Ivy, Willow, Violet, Jasmine, Poppy, Rose, Daisy and Olive.
