Just over a week ago, the Pretty Little Liars star announced that she’d recently welcomed her first child to the world - a baby girl shared with her partner Matte Babel. And while the 32-year-old didn’t disclose the exact date of their daughter’s birth, a few days later she posted a video of the pair out on the town at Drake’s bday bash.
"Parents," she captioned it.
Immediately, the mum-shamers came out in full force. Comments included:
"I understand parents need a night out once in a while, but days after giving birth??"
"Sorry but who even wants to be out days after giving birth? Post-partum pads aren't hot. Stay home and rest your body and bond with your baby.”
"You picked Drake over your days old newborn?"
"What could possibly be better than staying home with your 3-day old newborn? A party? Really?"
One fan went as far as to assume Shay’s mental health must have been suffering.
"This just screams some postpartum depression, no need to go out so quickly unless u gotta keep an eye on ur man or prove something. You know how much fluid is still leaking lol,” they wrote.
Later, the new mum took to IG Stories to address all the negativity she’d received.
"Apparently people are really upset that I left three days after having a kid to go out and party," she said, while scrolling through the comments. "It wasn't three days and I left her with Angel, so," she quipped, referencing her dog.
To be fair, some did take her side in the debate.
“You going out for a few hours doesn’t hurt the baby right, I’m sure she left her child in capable hands. new mothers don't have to stay locked in their home 24/7 to bond with the baby," one fan tweeted.
Shay responded to this with her signature sass, writing: "Yeah EXACTLY - I left her with Angel and put water out for both of them."
Can we all just agree to butt out of other people’s business from now on?
