Gomez’s go-to stylist, Marissa Marino shared the look on her Instagram, writing, “New shag for London promo @makeupbymelissam @kateyoung @thatgirlbeverly @marissa.marino.” The 70s style cut is something we’ve seen on the star before. In 2016, Gomez donned a longer version of her current hairstyle; but the 2019 iteration is definitely a fresher, shorter and more modern take on the original.
The shaggy cut is far from new and has been a staple go-to for many celebrities and fashionistas over the years (it’s basically been Alexa Chung’s haircut since forever). The style’s versatility is a testament to its endurance and can be customized to work on a variety of face shapes and hair types. No matter how you wear it, volume and lots of layers is always the answer to achieving that perfectly undone messiness that the style is known for.
Even with less than three weeks left until the new year, we have no doubt that Gomez’s new style will cement itself as one of 2019’s and possibly 2020’s top hair trends.
