Roj Torabi, Aka The Roject, Shares Her Ultimate Tips for Glowing Skin

Lawyer by day, The Roject by night.

The skinfluencer scene is growing by the minute, so finding someone whose advice you can actually trust has become a mindfield in itself. Enter Roj Torabi, a 23-year-old skin influencer who goes under the username @TheRoject.

Dedicating her feed to being a “no-bullshit space to explore all things- skin, life, masks, beauty etc,” Roj started her account just over a year ago in order to share authentic reviews and advice, as well as set herself apart from other influencers not doing the right amount of research before endorsing products. “I always wanted to create a space for honest beauty reviews. Even in the tumblr days, I dreamed of being able to share something useful,” she explains.

Here, Roj shares some of her best skin tips that she has learnt along the way.

What’s one thing when it comes to skincare you wish other people were more aware of?

I think some people have forgotten that remember that skincare is meant to be fun.

I’d love for this whole idea of a dreaded routine to disappear and for people to see it as 5 minutes of ‘you’ time in the day. It doesn’t need to be complicated; it doesn’t need to be a 10-step routine that you can’t be stuffed with. It just needs to make you feel better.

I also don’t think that, we need to remember that you don’t need to be a millionaire to have good skin. Sure, there are a million brands out there with price tags that may seem unachievable and can make you feel bad about your budget. But don’t disregard all the incredible brands that may also meet your budget and will do exactly what you want them to do

I hope people always remember that That SPF is your BFF. If anyone tells you otherwise, they’re trying to ruin your skin.

I also think a lot of brands have drilled the powers of an oil in being hydrating, but I think it’s important to remember that an oil will offer temporary relief and help seal everything in, but we shouldn’t forget the hyaluronic acid because that’s what works on the long-term hydration feeling.

And lastly- always ask questions and stay skin informed. If you think you need something, don’t let the store counter tell you otherwise because chances are you actually know enough about skincare to make that judgment yourself. Be confident

What do you look for in a moisturiser?

Quite a lot to be quite honest with you. Mainly because there’s so many options, products, brands, variations etc. So, a product really has to sell itself to me, otherwise, bye felicia, I’m applying something else.

To fall into this ‘I love’ category, I need it to pack a punch- so I ask myself, is this merely hydrating, or does it do more than just your traditional moisturiser? How does it feel? Is it irritating? Does it sit well? Does it smell? does it look too matte/oily? All the big questions!

What does your routine look like at the moment?

This changes all the time- my skin can go through all 4 seasons for change in a week. At the moment, it wants all the hydration and the extra nourishment that the skincare world can offer. Which is probably why my tub of the Olay Ultra Rich is looking rather bare and I’m also very heavy on the sheet masking at the moment- my skin can’t get enough of it.

I’ve also been loving applying the Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 Serum before bed, my skin can’t get enough of it. It’s a beautiful lightweight, concentrated, and fragrance-free serum that absorbs quickly into the skin without a sticky, greasy or heavy feeling. This serum contains the highest level of Collagen Peptides in any Olay formula to hydrate and improve skin’s texture, which in turn makes the skin appear firmer, with out that tight feeling and, more supple.

How is your routine changing as the weather warms up?

My skincare routine in summer doesn’t change ask much as my make up routine does. For example-

– I really focus on the SPF application and the reapplication (I do this in winter too)

– I moisturise well but I might opt for a slightly matte moisturiser during the day because I tend to get quite oily.

– Lighter makeup- think more skin tints rather than full coverage foundations etc.

– I stay on top of my exfoliation routine. this is because I know that an increase in acne and/or random breakouts brought on by warm and humid weather is super common for my skin, so I really try to keep on top of it

– I also try to add an oil-absorbing product to your routine. e.g., products with ingredients like nylon, which work to absorbs sebum as your skin creates it. This gives off that less greasy, yet still hydrated look.

Roj’s top 5 skin tips

1. Cleanse every night & day like your life depends on it. Your skincare won’t work if it can’t reach your skin through the dirt.

2. Always apply your eye products first. Wearing it last is like wearing your undies on top of your trousers. Pointless but still a look.

3. Dip a Q-tip into moisturiser and use that to take off any mistakes you make when doing your make up. I’ve loved doing this with the – Olay Regenerist Collagen Peptide 24 Facial Moisturiser (I’ve convinced myself that life’s too short to not enjoy these tricks)

4. Use your eye products on your neck and smile lines. Why? Cause it works.

5. Niacinamide is a skincare superstar- just remember that.
