Perrie Edwards from the British girl-group Little Mix shared a photo on Instagram that has sparked an unexpected movement online.
Perrie Edwards has spoken about her scar in the past, which was the result of several life-saving operations. She told Now magazine last year that she has always been self conscious about it.
"When I was little, my oesophagus was too small, so I had to get it operated on to help me eat properly," she explained. "I had to have lots of operations, so that's why I don't want to show it."
But she took to Instagram a few days ago to show her scar off proudly, and she looks amazing.
But the best part of this is the impact it has had on young women who have similar scars. Since she shared the photo, many people have come forward with their own stories of scars and shared photos proudly baring them.
She had many supportive comments on the photo from fans, despite some haters.
One person commented, "I just want to say thanks so much for proudly showing off your scar, it's so inspiring. I have extensive scarring on my legs after ten surgeries and I'm embarrassed to have my legs uncovered. Seeing someone so beautiful and strong embrace her markings makes me want to learn how to love mine too. It means everything to people like me, proving pride can come from such pain - Thank you Perrie."
Another commenter said, "I'm so happy that she is not ashamed of her imperfection love you Perrie"
Just goes to show the power celebrities have to make a difference to the way we see ourselves!
