If we were to rifle through your handbag right now what beauty products would we find?
It depends where I’m going. When I’m travelling I do have little makeup kit which has a little bit of foundation in it. I try and keep my Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat, which I’ve been using for like 15 years, a bit of lip gloss. I have some cheeks, and mascara, and some powder.
What does your regular beauty routine look like?
I definitely wash my face every morning with some really good face stuff you know, I don’t kind of skimp on that because it's really important. So I do have a regime but it does depend on what my skin is doing or if I’m doing a shoot then I need to like scrub it and all that and then I might do a mask the night before a shoot or I’ll put on a mask just to give me a glow the next day. I do run through the whole thing, wash, tone, serum, moisturise, sunscreen, eye cream, all of that. And same at night time, I do a really good scrub, really good wash and then end up with either a moisturiser, eye cream sometimes I put a serum on, or an active ingredient as well.
What does your long-term beauty routine involve?
I do love getting facials, I think it’s really nice and fresh for your skin, but a lot of it I do it at home, I might put a face mask on as well. I do love good eyebrows, so I do go to an amazing an amazing woman in Melbourne called Carmen the Eyebrow Queen, who’s just the bomb. She used to do Margot Robbie.
Also I’ve just done Ultherapy. When I was asked to be Ultherapy’s ambassador I was super excited about the treatment. I think what stood out to me is that they’ve done a lot of studies, 20 years worth of trials, a million patients worldwide. It’s like a non-surgical face lift that tightens the skin and builds collagen naturally. I’m a holistic person but I’m also 43 and I want to look fresh. It’s probably the best thing I’ve ever had done, skin-wise.
Has your relationship and attitude towards your body changed as you’ve gotten older?
Yeah definitely. I think I’ve learnt to accept that after you have children, even at your fittest, your body is not going to look the same as it did before children. I’ve learned to accept what my body has gone through, which is really quite empowering but at the same time I still want to feel as fit as I can and strong as I can. It’s learning to accept that you’ve got to be the best version of yourself. Not really comparing yourself to anyone one else or comparing yourself to your 20-year-old body because it's not going to look like that. And wishing that at 20, you really loved your body more because it was banging!
How has this translated into your health and fitness routine?
I didn’t ever really self care at all, I was just a bull at a gate, my mind was always full, I drank coffee, I was always just go go go. Now I don’t drink coffee anymore, I get up at 5:30am and I go to yoga or pilates, I meditate every day. I would always laugh when I read these interviews about people, but I actually do this now, I never did I before. I meditate with my kids before they go to bed, so I feel like a really different person.
Is pilates and yoga your favourite way to workout?
Yeah I just love it, I guess my weakest spot is the core, and that’s really what both of them are all about. I especially love yoga, I've really gotten into that, it’s so much more about your mind and you know just to be able to just switch off, I love that. Although I do cardio tennis with my girlfriends which is hilarious.
What does your day on a plate looks like?
I’m not strict on anything food-wise because I don’t know if that’s very healthy for your mind to be honest, but I am very conscious of having great nutrition. I travel a lot, so it’s hard to have real consistency. But like I said don’t drink coffee anymore, I wake up most mornings and have my hot water and apple cider vinegar, much to my family's distaste, it stinks. And then I have muesli or something like that, nothing too big for breakfast. Obviously when I'm out I'll have eggs or something like this morning I had poached eggs, spinach and mushrooms. So I’m conscious of having healthy values to teach to my kids but I’m not so strict about it. I find for my body type I like to pick all day, that suits me better, that’s always consistent. I also always eat around 5:30pm or 6pm with my kids, I just find if I eat later I don’t sleep well, the next day I feel so heavy.
