What is Mercury in retrograde, again?
When it comes to astrology, the term retrograde just means that something appears to be moving backwards. So, when Mercury is in retrograde, it looks like it’s moving from east to west, instead of its standard west to east.
Every planet goes retrograde at some point—this isn’t just a Mercury thing—and Mercury itself goes retrograde in different astrological signs. This time, it’s happening in the sign of Pisces, and that can mean a few different things.
How will February's Mercury in retrograde impact your zodiac sign?
You’re going to daydream, Page says. Like, a lot. You’ll take mental vacays to Tahiti, design your ideal S.O., and conjure up your perfect apartment—all without leaving the (relative) comfort of your office. No harm in daydreaming, but this is Mercury in retrograde we’re talking about, so some stuff is bound to get messed up.
In this Mercury retrograde, communication is going to get the brunt of it. What the heck does that mean? "You’ll have an expectation that people can read between the lines of what you’re saying, but it doesn’t mean that everyone is on the same wavelength," Page explains. Basically, be super clear about what you're *actually* trying to convey when you say something, JIC.
Oh, and given that this Mercury retrograde is big on dreaming, Page says it’s really easy to oversleep. So, set your phone alarm and Alexa for the A.M. to cover your butt.
Also, given that Pisces is a water sign, you can be a little forgetful around liquid during this time. Did you turn the sink off before you left your place, or is it still running? Did you leave your umbrella in the cab? And, more importantly, did you actually order another round at the bar or... did you just imagine you did? (Whomp whomp if it's the latter.)
Mercury in retrograde will impact all astrological signs, but Page says that Pisces and Virgo will feel it the most.
How will Mercury in retrograde impact your sign in the future?
Luckily, Mercury in retrograde doesn’t go on forever and ever. But the way you react to it now can have a ripple effect on your future. So, make sure to check yourself before you fire off a quick email to your boss or send a text to your S.O. on the fly—it could easily be misinterpreted, and you don’t want to deal with the fallout from that.
But, again, don’t stress (too much) over Mercury in retrograde. As a whole, life should continue on as usual after it passes. Just try to be on your A-game until then.
