Lili Reinhart Opens Up About Her Battle With Body Dysmorphia

Lili Reinhart Hits Back At Claims She’s Not ‘Curvy’ Or ‘Skinny’ Enough To Feel Insecure

Riverdale actress come BoPo activist, Lili Reinhart, just schooled trolls who questioned her struggles with body dysmorphia, and we are here for it.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 21-year-old explained how she’s come to terms with insecurities she has over her figure.

“I’ve always really loved old Hollywood glamour and fashion,” she said. “Marilyn Monroe was a curvy girl: she had boobs and she didn’t have a 24-inch waist. To me that’s really inspiring and makes me feel like my body is accepted.”

So, when one Twitter user dismissed these comments because she was “built like Gigi Hadid” Lili couldn’t help but speak up.

“Feeling really disheartened by the fact that so many people are saying, ‘you’re so skinny so shut up about embracing your body,’” she responded.

“As if my body dysmorphia is irrelevant because of how I look to some people. I’m either not curvy enough or not skinny enough to feel insecure.”

In a follow-up tweet, she continued to explain how “insecurity exists outside the limits of a certain dress size.”

“Mental illness gets worse when people say that you don’t have a right to feel the way you do. That’s where we are [failing.] Do not encourage this behaviour. It is destructive. More destructive than you’ll ever realise.”

She added: “You may not understand someone’s insecurity – but respect it.”

The lesson to be learned here? Just like any other mental illness, anyone can be affected by body dysmorphia, no matter their shape or size. Which is why no one should be criticised for expressing their insecurities.
