How To Have An Orgasm You Will Never, Ever Forget

Orgasms don’t always come easy, but thanks to the brilliant human brain and the evolution of the sex toy market, there are so, so many ways to reach that peak. And I think we can agree that it is *worth it*, no matter which way you prefer to get there.

Although the orgasm rate for penis-havers is higher, the erectile tissue for people with vaginas is spread out over a larger area, meaning more erogenous zones to explore and more ways to reach climax. “The clitoris has 8,000 nerve endings in the tip alone,” says Sex Therapist Casey Tanner, M, LCC, CT. “That’s twice as many as the penis, and yet the clitoris often gets only half of the attention, if that.” So there is no reason that with a lil’ effort and an openness to trying some of these new and improved toys, that the orgasm gap can’t be closed.

Oh, and according to research done by OMGYES and the Indiana University School of Public Health, what works for a mind blowing orgasm actually changes over time. In other words, it’s worth switching it up.

Pressure play

“A technique I recommend is something we call ‘pressure play,” explains Tanner. “During masturbation, you can increase pressure by stimulating your clitoris with a sex toy while laying on your stomach, and using your body weight or thrusting your hips to up the intensity.”

In other words, next time you get down with your self or another person, set a goal to try something new and follow whatever feels good. Change the pressure in different areas, and you’ll eventually find that diamond in the rough.

“Depending on your level of clitoral sensitivity, pressure can either increase pleasure or increase discomfort, so there’s no hard-and-fast rule about how much pressure should be applied. Sensitivity may be impacted by factors like clitoris size, size of the clitoral hood, hormonal fluctuations, and medications,” she adds.

And sure – you might think we’re talking about a good ol’ vibrator, but might we suggest you try something a little different?

LELO SILA

Suction

There are toys that use things like suction to offer new sensations, like the LELO SILA – working with a wide range of clitoris sizes thanks to its extra-wide mouth.

LELO, a Swedish intimate lifestyle company has hit the nail on the head with its range of seriously-ergonomic sex toys that will help you reach a clitoris orgasm like nothing else, and the SILA is the latest must-try from their range.

The clitorial massager uses the brand’s patented “SenSonic technology” that combines no-contact “sonic wave” pulsations that stimulate your internal clitoris with an undercurrent of vibration for more surface-level external titillation.

Confusing? Think of it as a deeper, mounting, more all-encompassing sensation that will bring you to a high quality, fuller-body orgasm using a clitoris massage. Sounds good, right?

Slow it down

The technique the SILA uses focuses on the notion of slow sex. What that means is it gentle clitoral stimulation to get you there slower, but with a more enhanced orgasmic sensation – perfect for experienced sex toy users, as well as any first-timers. “Orgasms from slower-paced sex are are not only achievable – many actually prefer the experience of orgasm after a longer build-up. Research demonstrates that delaying orgasm is associated with more intense climaxes,” adds Casey. Another way to enjoy a slower, more sensual session (with a partner, or without) can come in the form of edging, where you basically pull back right as you’re about to orgasm, in order to intensify the one you eventually have. “Edging is the practice of stopping sexual stimulation when you or a partner is close to the “edge” of an orgasm, in order to delay the orgasm, often with the goal of experiencing elongated pleasure and a more intense climax,” she explains. “Edging can also help you become more attuned to your body, and the different reactions it has to the way it’s being touched.” To find out more about the LELO SILA, head here. 8 Of The Best Exercise Shorts That Will Power You Through A Summer Of Movement

It’s official: Shorts Season is officially here. While lockdown has seen many of us realise that activewear is less something to be worn for a workout and more a uniform we choose to do any and all daily activities in, when the warmer temperatures roll around, that favourite pair of sweatpants and leggings sometimes don’t cut it. Sure, they might be a staple in any wardrobe, but the Aussie sun doesn’t listen to reason, no matter how comfortable or cute it might be. And when it comes to summer, working out in leggings can feel like being trapped in a sauna, the sweat pooling at your ankles and around the waistband – as well as those other areas we won’t mention here.

But as we transition from leggings to shorts, it becomes clear pretty quickly that not all shorts are created equal, and certainly not all shorts are fit for a workout. Take it from us at Women’s Health HQ, we’ve been there, tried it and lived to see the consequences. From the shorts that look cute but ride up to show your undies on the run, to those that feel like being strapped into a harness that’s digging into your hip bones. Then there are the fabrics that can cause chafing – a big no – and those that basically shine a spotlight on any area you might be sweating.

Thankfully, a number of brands are here to cater to your exercise needs with innovative materials, fabrics and sustainable options to see you through a summer of movement. Regardless of your workout preferences or daily activity, we’ve selected the best shorts that will ensure you feel good in your body, shorts that get you excited to embrace the day and attack it with energy, that make you want to get outside and enjoy the outdoors, whether it be walking, running, or socialising in the park. Here are our pick of the best bike shorts below.

Nagnata

Uptown Biker, $240

What says summer more than a pop of orange and the sleek shape of these Nagnata biker shorts? With its mid-length and horizontal raised rib side detail, these are shorts you can wear both for a workout and out to meet the girls. Made in Australia with a technical knit fabrication, the double-layer jacquard provides gentle sculpting qualities for the body, making it an excellent choice for light to moderate fitness activities like yoga, pilates or barre.

Nike

Thankfully, Naomi Osaka knows what we need when it comes to exercise shorts and these utility shorts from her collaboration with Nike offer all that and more with a relaxed fit and elastic waistband.
