A quick scroll through beauty vlogger Lauren Curtis‘ Insta feed might have you believing the 26-year-old leads a completely glam existence. And while the influencer undoubtedly has some life highlights that we’ll never experience, Lauren has shared a relatable reminder that she has “lows” just like the rest of us.

Alongside an Instagram post of her pimple creamed covered bacne, Lauren wrote: “I’m gonna call myself out for talking about how Instagram is dangerous cos you only ever see people’s highs and never usually their lows, but then still really only sharing my highs.”

“This photo certainly doesn’t represent a true ‘low’, but instead a realistic view of what a normal night is for me these days,” she added. “Covered in pimple cream, at home, probably in bed by 9:30 on a Saturday night (I was actually in bed by 9 on Saturday cos I ate myself into a food coma). Anyway, life’s good! Bacne and all.”

Plenty of Lauren’s 1.3 million Instagram fans gave her kudos for the candid post.

“Thank you so much for putting this out here,” one commented. “I struggled with bacne when I was a teen and now I have few scars on my back and occasionally some pimples. I’ve always been so insecure about my back and felt like I was the only one struggling with bacne. Thank you for showing that this is completely normal!”

It’s fair to say that most of us grew up thinking that we’d say sayonara to acne once we graduated high school but research has found the prevalence of the chronic skin condition is increasing in adults. And especially among women. Plus, The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that one third of people with facial acne also have some amount of body acne.

Tips for treating back acne include showering straight after workouts, choosing loose, breathable clothes, regularly exfoliating, a nutritious diet, and effective products. In regards to the latter, Lauren also fielded numerous queries about what products she uses to deal with back pimples.

“I got this one from @theskinfairy_!” she explained. “It’s by DMK, acu masque!”
