“My [mum] sent me the hand washing black light comparison. 30 SECONDS WITH SOAP YALL!!!!” she captioned the post.
The first image, taken before washing, shows a hand lit up with germs under a UV light. The second and third pics were snapped after simply rinsing with water, while the fourth and fifth sum up the effect of briefly using soap.
In the sixth image, the hand is significantly cleaner, with no germs in sight after 30 seconds of getting sudsy.
Needless to say, the collage has racked up thousands of likes and hundreds of comments so far.
“And now I am going to wash my hands with a 30 second timer,” one fan wrote. “My Dad told us as kids: ‘if you don’t use soap, you’re just giving the germs a drink!’ ’😂 #DadWisdom,” added another.
Another commenter summed up our thoughts entirely.
“Isn’t it sad we live in a world where we have to show people proof that washing your hands is important," they said.
According to a study published by the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, proper hand-washing can reduce your chances of contracting a respiratory illness by up to 54 per cent.
