Recently, during an appearance on US talk show Busy Tonight, the host Busy Phillips asked the 38-year-old if she’d ever slept with her makeup on. Just when we expected her to dish out a lecture on the importance of basic hygiene she replied, “Oh, all the time.”
*Insert the audience collectively crying in horror here*
“Like, even if I can’t have glam the next day, I’ll sleep perfectly and maybe I’ll redo my skin, but I try to salvage it for two days,” she added.
Sure, her admission is relatable but that doesn’t mean it’s right. As any beautician or dermatologist will tell you, it’s essential to wash your mug at night to keep it looking it’s best. The reason being that leaving product on your skin (be it foundation, concealer or powder) dries everything out, causes irritation and messes with its natural barrier. Over long periods of time, this can cause premature-ageing, i.e. fine lines and wrinkles. Yes, really.
And while occasionally forgetting to take your makeup off after a night out is fine (shit happens, right!) just don’t follow Kim’s lead and do it all the time. After all, the girl has the world’s best facialists at her beck and call – and that, my friends, gives her an exception to the rule.
