Something Is Very Wrong With This Picture Of Kim Kardashian’s New Baby

by | May 23, 2019

The Internet is out for blood and their latest victim is Kim Kardashian West. Honestly, we’re not surprised: the woman can’t even brush her teeth without receiving feedback. But unlike most of the other criticism she’s copped lately (be it the size of her waist or unusual choice in baby name), this time it’s not completely unfounded.

To announce the arrival of her newborn, Psalm, on Instagram this week, the 38-year-old shared a screenshot of a text message thread with her husband, Kanye West. It read:

“Beautiful Mother’s Day

With the arrival of our fourth child

We are blessed beyond measure.”

The cute note was also accompanied by a pic of the bub sleeping soundly in his crib.

Cue: haters.

Loads of people flocked to the post to slam the couple, specifically taking issue with Psalm’s
“dangerous sleep environment.”

“1. Congrats! 2. Anyone else freaking out about all the blankets & bumpers?! American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping the crib free of blankets & pillows until baby is 12 months old, as these can create a suffocation hazard. @kanyewest Just looking out for a fellow dad :),” one comment read.

“Please please please go pay an overpriced ‘sleep consultant’ to get all that unnecessary padding, bumpers and blankets out of your child’s crib so they are not at risk for SIDS. I’ve tried and failed to resuscitate too many children that have died this way. Signed an ER doctor,” said another.

And another: “This is NOT how to put your baby down to sleep!!! Hoping this reaches other mothers and educates on safer sleeping! The snuggle pod should NOT be used in a cot and at night time. The baby should NOT be overwrapped. The baby should NOT have a hat on in the house. The head should be allowed to release excess heat and there should be NO cot bumpers!!! Feet should be positioned at the bottom of the cot, baby not placed in the middle!!”

And another: “Yeah not good – so much suffocation hazard going on.”

While we usually don’t condone or indulge mum shamers as no one has the right to weigh in on the parenting style of others, this time, the trolls may have a point.

Via their website, the Aussie organisation Red Nose recommends that “head coverings [be] removed before baby is placed for sleep” and for there to be “no doonas, loose bedding or fabric, pillows, lambs wool, bumpers or soft toys in the cot.” In addition, they warn that “soft surfaces and bulky bedding increase the risk of sudden infant death.”

And truthfully, we can’t be sure whether the tot was actually sleeping or whether he was simply placed in the cot for the purpose of the pic. But Kim and Kanye, if you’re reading this, you might wanna brush up on safe sleep for babies. The internet is coming for you.
