“Don’t like vegetables? Then just eat pasta. 🍝😜,” she captioned a snap of herself tucking into a bowl of spaghetti. “We (the family) add as many vegetables as we can to our pasta sauce…I want to show you that being healthy doesn’t mean that you have to eat plain steamed vegetables with every meal.”
Added bonus? It’s kid-approved.
“This is how my sister and I make meat pasta sauce for Arna. We eat it too but just add salt, pepper and chilli.”
Mostly, Kayla adds mushrooms, carrot, zucchini, spinach and pumpkin to her sauce, although she reckons the recipe is versatile enough to “add whatever vegetables you like.”
This is so good for anyone who’s super fussy,” she wrote. “P.S. Yes, I ate this whole serve!! 😋"
Without further ado, here’s Kayla’s recipe:
✅ Heat olive oil, 2 cloves of garlic (crushed) and a chopped brown onion in a fry pan, until the onion starts to go brown.
✅ Add 500g of lean beef mince to the pan. Using a spatula, separate the mince into small pieces and cook until browned.
✅ Add 5 mushrooms (diced), 1 carrot (grated), 1 zucchini (grated), 1 tomato (diced), and a handful of spinach (chopped), some pumpkin (grated) and cook for 10 minutes, or until the vegetables soften.
✅Add 500ml of passata sauce, 2 bay leaves, dried oregano and 400ml of beef stock to the mix and stir through.
✅ Let sauce mixture simmer for 30 minutes over low heat.
✅ Add to pasta and top with parmesan.
10/10 for yum.
