Jennifer Aniston Swears By Intermittent Fasting, And Consider Us Converted

If the warmer weather wasn’t enough to have you lean into healthier habits (less Netflix and napping, more sweating and salads), just take a cue from the OG queen of #fitspo herself, Jennifer Aniston.

While promoting the new Apple series The Morning Show this week, the actress revealed her affinity for intermittent fasting – specifically, the 16:8 diet.

“I do intermittent fasting, so no food in the morning,” the 50-year-old told UK media outlet Radio Times. “I noticed a big difference in going without solid food for 16 hours.”

Btw, there are tons of different variations on IF – like fasting for 16 hours and eating normally for 8 (like Jen) or fasting two days per week and following a regular eating regime for the other five (aka, the 5:2 diet.) Some people even swear by ADF or alternate-day fasting, where you go every other day (or 36 to 40 hours) only consuming water.

For the most part, IF is perfectly healthy: it assists weight loss, boosts brain function and controls blood sugar levels. But there are negatives too, e.g. hunger and fatigue. Plus, loading up on nutritious foods on non-fasting days is non-negotiable (to avoid undoing all the positives, obvs.)

As for Jen, she usually sleeps in until 9 am, before kicking off her morning with a celery juice and meditation. Five days a week she’ll follow this up with a workout. FYI, experts say it’s totally safe to exercise while fasting – just as long as you listen to your body and know your limits.
