Neate explained her health struggle in a brave post on her Instagram. “It’s actually taken me 7 years to get the balls to do this, but yes I have no hair,” Neate revealed. “I found out I had alopecia when I was 13 and ever since I've hid it with hair extensions, then wigs. To some people it might be a surprise and to others you may have already known but I'm making this post for myself, to show myself that it's okay to accept it and not hide behind this idea of looking "normal" all of the time.”
The Instagram star points out that her post wasn’t meant to be a sad one, but rather it is a huge weight off her shoulders. “That’s why this isn't intended to be a sob story,” she explains. “I'm so incredibly lucky to have the people that I do around me right now.”
Experts suspect alopecia universalis is an auto-immune condition. “That means my body rejects my own hair follicles,” she says. “It can happen to anyone at anytime so I think it's important to bring awareness to it.”
If you notice hair loss, seek the advice of a medical professional.
