One relationship expert says there’s a simple way to determine if your date deserves a round two, three, four and forever, without coming off as way too forward.
Instead of asking "where is this going" or "do we have a future together" go for a classic, cliche line, Doctor Robert Maurer says.
“So, how come someone as wonderful as you is still single?”
Phrase it as a compliment and Dr Maurer says that their answer will reveal a lot about their character when it comes to crunch time, with the ability to predict “future relationship health”.
“As they relate the stories of their last relationship(s) are they taking any responsibility for choosing poorly or not having the right skills at that point in their lives?” he writes. “Are they taking any responsibility for the last relationship not working?”
If they’re playing the victim, run for the hills.
“All relationships run into stumbling blocks. When you hit the inevitable rough patches, will they look for ways to help or wait for you to take the blame, the whole blame, and nothing but the blame?”
He says that for a relationship to thrive, you should “look for someone who is willing to look inside for the source of the problem and the solutions”.
That sounds like very sensible advice.
