Hilary Duff Just Expertly Summed Up The Reality Of Pregnancy And The Internet Is Loving It

We love Hilary Duff – not just for the Lizzie Maguire mems and/or her perfect teeth alignment– but also for her ability to keep it real on all levels, especially when it comes to motherhood.

Which is why when she took to Insta this week to admit that she was finding her second pregnancy tough, we were all:

“The boobs are big, the belly is big the body is big. Man.. pregnancy is hard,” she captioned a snap of herself in a bikini.

“Giving love to all mamas who make it look effortless… this journey is hard as hell and also incredibly special. Lovely to have a little life inside and to daydream of all the new adventures to come buuuut almost impossible to get my own shoes on.. sick of getting up 9 times a night to pee and looking at this weird body in the mirror that is not my own at the moment.”

“Women are so bad ass,” she continued. “This was just a note to remind myself and remind others [how] strong and beautiful you are! WE GOT THIS!”

The post racked up over 930,000 likes in just a few hours, with many new mums praising her for her honesty:

“THANK YOU for making a real post about pregnancy!! It’s beautiful, but gosh it’s hard. I’ve got 3 more months to go!” one user commented.

“Couldn’t have said it better,” another added.

It’s not the first time Hilary’s been open about her body-confidence issues.  Speaking to Women’s Health US, she acknowledged her mindset “really sucked” after giving birth to her son Luca back in 2012.

“I wasn’t one of those women who just could nurse and lose the weight,” she said. “Some people bounce back and don’t have to deal with that and that’s wonderful for them. But for me, it was so hard to connect with my body again once I had a baby.”

With time, she learned to appreciate her changing figure, rather than resent it.

“My body helped create a bond between [my son], and me being there for him in those first months of his life ultimately was far more important than me trying to get in shape right away,” she explained. “I realised that I am never going to be the same again, and that’s okay. I’ve learned to be proud of what my body does for me and what it did while I was pregnant with my son.”

The reality is, expectant mothers don’t always feel like they’re glowing – in fact, it’s often the opposite. But Hilary’s words serve as an important reminder that pregnancy can be tough, physically and mentally – celebrity or not.
