Now, Goop is calling for a rebrand of menopause and with Gwyneth’s star power still shining bright, she might just succeed in making it cool. The wellness platform previously released a video where Gwyneth detailed her experience with perimenopause, saying: “When you get into perimenopause, you notice a lot of changes.” She added, “I can feel the hormonal changes happening: the sweating. The moods. You’re just like all of a sudden furious for no reason.”
In dealing with the new stage in her life, Gwyneth said that she’s recalibrated her fitness regimen to take this into account, going so far as to incorporate weight-lifting to build bone density, while also continuing to keep her clean-eating diet which focuses on whole foods, leafy greens and lean, ethically-sourced protein. She also closely monitors her hormone levels. “I wasn’t overly focused on my hormones in my thirties,” she said. “[But now] I do a panel every six months to ensure that everything is aligned.”
In an interview with Vogue, Gwyneth explained: “I remember when my mother went through menopause and it was like such a big deal and there was grief around it for her and all of these emotions.” It led her to become passionate about tackling taboo subjects in the field of women’s health as Goop even went so far as to launch Madame Ovary, a vitamin and supplement pack allegedly designed to help regulate hormones for women above 40. “I think menopause gets a really bad rap and needs a bit of a rebranding. I don’t think we have in our society a great example of an aspirational menopausal woman.”
