Australian fitness star Emily Skye has been praised for her honest account of postpartum recovery in her latest Instagram post.
The 33-year-old – who gave birth to her daughter Mia 23 days ago – shared a mirror selfie in which she poses in a crop top and her partner Declan’s shorts, because, she writes, “none of mine fit”.
“I’m down roughly 14kg since I have [given] birth (I’d gained about 21kg while preg),” her caption says, “It just shows how much fluid I had!”
“My tummy isn’t completely down yet and it’s really squishy but it’s getting there. My abs seems to be almost completely back together which I’m so happy about! They were 3 finger widths apart after I gave birth! The core & pelvic floor work I do everyday is obviously working.”
The famous trainer says she’s managing to do some light and easy exercises for her pelvic floor and core, and says it feel “so good to do something slightly active”.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the gym in 2.5 weeks,” she continues.
“It’s going to take a lot of hard work to get some sort of strength and fitness back but if I commit myself and I’m consistent I believe I’ll get there.”
Plenty of her 2.2 million followers applauded her refreshing message.
“ Love how real you’re being,” on wrote. “No celebrities seem to show this side of the after effects of having a baby! I’ve never seen someone so gracefully and generously offer a glimpse into the real experience of giving birth.”
“You have no idea how much this empowers new mummies!” another commented. “I was so stressed about my shape after having a baby because of all the Instagram accounts having abs right after and I had to wear my husbands clothes, you give so much truth and reality and make it possible for moms to enjoy their new baby and journey thank you.”
“Such honesty, realism and practical advice to boot,” one wrote, “Real ways to repair the body after doing one of the most natural things on earth: creating life! Thank you Emily for leading the way.”
