The Eating And Exercise Habits Behind Elsa Pataky’s Seriously Strong Physique

Some things in life are a total given, like the fact that whenever Elsa Pataky discusses anything wellness related, her insights are pure gold.

In an appearance on Sunrise while promoting her new book Strong, the 43-year-old shared the eating and exercise regime that keeps her looking and feeling her best. And rather than subscribing to food fads that promise results fast, she’s all for adopting “healthier” habits that are sustainable in the long run.

“I don't believe anything about diets, like quick diets that you do before summer. Those miracles don't exist,” she told the publication. Instead, she recommends following a Mediterranean-style diet – one that’s rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds and olive oil.

“Mediterranean food every day, not just [for] periods of time,” she explained, adding that processed sugars, alcohol and fatty foods should be kept to a minimum.

As for her approach to fitness? She does yoga (twice weekly) and weight training (three 30-minute sessions plus time for stretching). Plus, she’s big on prioritising incidental exercise – like walking.

“As much as you can do, start little by little, and you'll feel like you're getting addicted to feeling better,” she said. 

“At a minimum, start [with] 15 minutes, or 20 minutes [of exercise] a day. If you go on a bus to work, maybe get off earlier than your stop and walk.”

She previously told Women’s Health she can’t go more than two weeks without moving her body. “I just get really nervous and my energy starts to go down,” she said. “When you start working out and your body’s changing and you’re achieving your goals, that’s such a great thing. So, I think that’s the motivation [to exercise] – feeling better and just being happy with you and knowing that you’re healthy.”
