The boyfriend of a woman who was struck down with a rare disorder has shared an emotional video of her recovery process.
33-year-old Crystal Brown suddenly lost the ability to walk and talk after developing Guillain-Barré syndrome, a life-threatening illness that makes the body's immune system attack the peripheral nervous system.
Her boyfriend Joseph Papa rushed her to hospital three times before finally her condition was diagnosed as something more serious than the flu. She then began a slow recovery process over 10 months to regain movement in her arms and legs.
He shared a video on Facebook, showing her fight to learn how to eat, talk and walk again, and her patience throughout all the physio appointments. Her two children visited her and gave her hugs and kisses to keep her strong as she recovered.
The video of her incredible recovery has already hit over 118,000 views.
I would like to thank everyone for their support, time and effort to help along the way through Crystal Brown recovery from GBS Guillain Barre Syndrome!!!" Joseph wrote. "This had consumed our lives for 10 months. This has been our journey so far. Your generosity would mean the world."
In the video, Joseph points out that 10 months ago he carried Crystal to hospital, and now she is walking herself out due to her amazing efforts.
A friend of the family has created a GoFundMe page to raise $10,000 for her continued recovery, as she still has not gained full movement back.
At this stage, it is unknown exactly what causes Guillain-Barré syndrome, and it is not contagious.
