After releasing her documentary, The World’s A Little Blurry which explored the singer’s struggles with mental health and identity, she told fans that her next aesthetic change would be more than just a desire to embrace a new trend. “I’m changing it after the doc comes out…It’ll be the end of an era,” she said, before adding, “I’ma give you a new era.”
And that new era has come. Over the weekend, and after bringing home the Grammy for Record Of The Year, Billie posted a photo to Instagram of her new ‘do: a choppy, slightly ‘80s-inspired cut with platinum blonde locks. Naturally, the Internet broke as a result and fans are still unable to look at the picture calmly.
The post took just six minutes to surpass one million likes on Instagram and became the fastest picture in history to achieve such a thing on the platform.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Billie revealed that she’s often struggled with an identity crisis. “I did some radio show performance, and the entire show I felt like I was pretending to be Billie Eilish,” said the star. “I completely wasn’t looking at myself, as myself. I was just totally seeing it from not my own perspective, and it was so weird. It happened multiple times, at award shows and whatever. I just felt like a parody of myself.”
She added, “It’s just, you forget I’m literally 18. It’s funny that I’m expected to have found myself, and stick with it.”
Finally, it seems Billie is embracing her true persona. As for the new era of Billie Eilish, we’re excited to what it brings forth creatively from the artist.
