A Clinical Nutritionist Shares 6 Foods That’ll Help You Lose Weight, Sustainably

We have been inundated most of our adult lives with the new and latest weight loss craze, some very dangerous from skinny teas, extreme fasting, removing carbs and all promising rapid weight loss success and this is just not sustainable. Once the weight is lost most people return to their “normal” eating habits and the weight just piles back on.

Weight loss is so much more than calorie reduction, it is finding foods that have a low glycemic index, a good slow release of energy, satiating and good for gut health.

Learning and understanding key foods  to incorporate into your healthy weight loss program that are sustainable will make the difference long term to your success.

So I am going to share with you my top  foods that will help you lose weight sustainably.

1. Avocado

Avocado with your eggs for breakfast or over your salad at lunch is a great choice. Avocados are high in fibre, decrease appetite, increase the rate fat is burned, and may cause the body to burn more calories after eating.  Plus they are great for our heart health.

2. Eggs

Eggs could almost be crowned the dieter’s best friend. Not only are they high in protein to help keep you full, may improve metabolism but also rich in b vitamins that help provide energy and only 75 calories per egg.

3 Leafy greens

Leafy greens are sensational for weight loss. High in fibre, low in calories and carbohydrates they are a great addition to any meal. Rich in antioxidants and many minerals including calcium. Studies show that calcium accelerates weight loss. Not only that they are delicious, will keep you full and are so versatile.

4. Nuts

Nuts are linked to improving metabolic rate, keep you full and a great food to snack on between meals. The key is to just keep to the serving size that is around 30 grams a day or your handful cupped.

5. Berries

Berries are a fruit that I can’t overstate how amazing berries are for sustainable weight loss, a cup of strawberries loaded with vitamin C at only 49 calories. Berries are hydrating and have the lowest glycemic index of all fruits, a great option, added to meals or as a snack, rich in antioxidants and fibre, berries are a sustainable weight loss food that is most of all delish.

6. Yoghurt

Yoghurt is a good source of protein that promotes burning of fats, calories, keeps you full and a healthy gut may protect against inflammation, that is one of the main drivers for obesity.  When looking for what yoghurt to buy, make sure it is a good quality Greek yoghurt and definitely full fat.

It really is just so easy to make these foods a part of your healthy weight loss journey that are sustainable long term. Best of all they are whole foods that are natural, convenient, nutrient rich and delicious.
