3 Delicious Mocktails For Your Next Girl’s Night In

The importance of taking a break from alcohol

It can be easy to get in the cycle of going out after work, a few drinks here, a few drinks there, and all of a sudden across the week the numbers can really add up. When looking at the bigger picture, your health, it is all about balance and moderation, not the all or nothing approach. Taking a month off to reset and recalibrate can lead to several short- and long-term health benefits that the current and future you will thank you for. 

It’s a great opportunity to press pause and reset for the month of July. It’s a chance to focus on some other areas of your life, like keeping active in the cooler months! Taking a break from alcohol and joining initiatives like Dry July can benefit yourself as well as others, as you will be helping raise important funds for people affected by cancer in the process – so why not, it is a win-win!

The health and wellbeing benefits for taking a month off alcohol

By taking a month off from alcohol and signing up for a Dry July you could notice some short-term benefits, some of these include:

  • Improvements to your training or a better routine
  • Better recovery (for those active people or athletes out there) and muscle maintenance or building (we know alcohol impacts on recovery and muscle protein synthesis)

This includes various types of cancer, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, mental health conditions and injuries (accidents and falls), so taking a month off to press pause and reset will help prevent you from these alcohol related illness and injury risks.

Top tips for staying sober during Dry July

Tip 1: Make plans with friends and loved ones that you can look forward to and don’t centre around drinking – brunch, hiking, coastal walks, or active weekends away. 

Tip 2: Set yourself a savings target and treat yourself at the end of the month with something you really enjoy – or better yet, donate the money you saved to your Dry July to help people affected by cancer.

Tip 3: Replace your usual alcohol beverages with mocktail recipes, kombucha, soda water or herbal tea. 

Tip 4:  Drink your non-alcoholic beverages from a nice fancy wine glass – there is something about the action of drinking from a nice glass which makes the process so much more enjoyable (maybe buy yourself some new fancy glasses with any money you have saved)

Peppermint Tea Mocktail


  • 2 Peppermint teabags
  • 1 Cup boiling water
  • 2 Tsp lemon zest
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 Tsp honey optional
  • Soda water


  • Place the teabags, boiling water and honey (if using) in a jug and brew according to packet instructions. Remove the teabags and chill the tea in the fridge.
  • Zest and juice the lemon.
  • Place chilled tea, lemon zest and lemon juice in a jug. Stir well.
  • Divide between 2 ice filled glasses and top with soda water.
  • Garnish with extra lemon slices and serve.


Mindful Mocktail

Pomegranate Fizz


  • 60 mls pomegranate juice
  • Half a lime cut in wedges
  • 6-8 mint leaves
  • 250 mls diet ginger ale


  • Place lime wedges and pomegranate juice in a tall glass. Muddle until all the juice has been pressed out of the lime. If you don’t have a muddler, use the back end of a wooden spoon or similar.
  • Clap mint leaves together in your hands a few times to release the scent and add to the glass. Give the mint a gentle press a couple of times with the muddler.
  • Add plenty of ice to the glass and top with ginger ale. Stir well.
  • Garnish with pomegranate seeds, mint and lime.


Mindful Mocktail

Glowing Green Ginger Mojito


  • 2-3 cms grated ginger
  • 3 cms grated cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 6 mint leaves
  • 125 mls sparkling water
  • 125 mls diet ginger beer


  • Muddle ginger, cucumber, and lime in a bowl. If you don’t have a muddler, use the back end of a wooden spoon.
  • Clap the mint leaves together in your hands to release the scent and add it to the ginger mixture. Give the mint a gentle press with the muddler.
  • Strain mixture into a glass and add ice.
  • Top with half ginger beer, half sparkling water.
  • Garnish and serve.
